THE SUSSEX SNOWDROP TRUST - Trustee Profiles
Diana trained in the 1960's as an Orthopaedic and State Registered Nurse. Following a trip to Australia, where she worked for a year, she returned to England and became an Orthopaedic Ward Sister in a London Hospital. Diana and her husband moved to Walberton in 1974 where they brought up their three children and she now has three grandchildren.
Diana has previously been Chairman of Save the Children, Arundel and Littlehampton Branch, a member of St. Richard's Hospital Friends' Committee and a Walberton Parish Councillor. She is currently Chairman of the Board of Governors for Walberton & Binsted Church of England Primary School.
In 1992 Diana, Kate Shaw and Frank Snell took the request, made to the Friends' Committee for funding for a Care at Home Service for seriously ill local children, to their hearts, and The Sussex Snowdrop Trust was born.
Throughout the past 21 years Mrs Levantine has been the unsalaried CEO and managed the day to day running of the charity. She also gives many talks and presentations about Snowdrop to schools, clubs, church groups and organisations.
Kevin has lived in Middleton on Sea with his wife Caron for 30 years and has three grown up daughters and a granddaughter. He worked for a pharmacy business as a Senior Manager for 15 years and prior to that held senior roles in food retail, he also attended Warwick Business school.
Kevin is currently a Parish Councillor for Middleton on Sea which includes being Chairman on the Development Control Commitee. He also sits on the commitee of a Residence Association.
Kevin's passion for Snowdrop started in 2010 when sadly his daughter was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lympoma at the age of 15. Snowdrop fully supported the family during this time and they were introduced to some amazing professional and dedicated people. Kevin's wish was to one day repay Snowdrop and here he is now as Co-Chairman.
Kevin loves travelling and lives life to the full and describes himself as passionate and energetic.
Valerie has lived in West Sussex for 35 years and is married with two adult sons and three grandchildren. Val spent much of her early working life in various secretarial/admin positions in London and New York. In 1992 she joined WRVS and held voluntary positions within the organisation. She spent time as a member of the WRVS Vice Chairman's Committee before being appointed a Trustee (2003 - 2010). Having known Diana for many years, she has been active within the Snowdrop Trust since 2005.
I am a Chartered Accountant (FCA) holding a practising certificate and I am licensed to accept insolvency appointments. I had over thirty successful years in practice in the South with a global accounting firm and then a leading regional insolvency practice. This involved advising numerous sets of trustees, officers and stakeholders in the third sector, along with appointments over organisations that were facing financial difficulties. Throughout that time, I was in addition always a trustee in an honorary capacity of charities including schools, local associations, a community finance initiative and arts organisations, so I can understand the pressures on trustees and management from both sides.
I decided in 2016 to retire from that role and focus instead on a balance of private commercial work and more honorary involvement in supporting charities for the satisfaction that brings. I can't claim a background in care and medicine and (fortunately) haven't any personal experience of using Snowdrop’s services. I simply happened to attend a fund raising event and was impressed as everyone there by the work they do, so I responded to their appeal for volunteers. My role is to support Liz and Claire in the office with the accounting, budgeting and reporting; giving in-house guidance to my fellow trustees about our responsibilities; and generally helping to free up everyone's time from the office administration so they can be on the front line where it's best used.
