The Bury Hill Bikers have continued to fundraise for Snowdrop during 2009; among the many events organised they held a Concert, sale of a DVD, a Bike Push at the Snowdrop Annual 2009 Walk and a Charity Ride by some 200 Bikers around Sussex.  The hard work and sterling efforts of the BHB has meant that over £4,000 has been donated to our funds.

IT'S MAGIC!

Farbridge_photo_for_webOne of the most successful events organised in 2009 by The Trust was held at Farbridge in September. The new venue on the Lavant to Midhurst Road wa the place to be. John Mickerson, who had kindly allowed us to use the converted barn for the evening, joined Snowdrop in welcoming over 150 guests and loyal supporters to The Magical Evening at Farbridge. Prior to the main attraction of the evening - The Magician, Bertie Pearce - everyone enjoyed delicious canapes provided by the Trustees and wine sponsored by Brechin Management of South Kensington.
Bertie is a member of the Magic Circle and well known NADFAS speaker. He entertained the delighted audience with his amazing magic tricks, slide show of famous magicians and escapologists and wonderful jokes - mainly aimed at members of the audience! Bertie also gave an insight into the history of all things magic. This was a truly fabulous evening which raised over £2,200 for The Trust.

LUNCH IN THE GARDEN SUMMER 2009

Lunch_at_Kingfisher_for_webOn one of the hottest days of the Summer, friends and loyal supporters of Snowdrop enjoyed a delicious lunch in my garden in Walberton.
Over 70 people shared a relaxing few hours in the Company of their friends and new acquaintances; one couple found they were sitting with their friends from many years ago with whom they had lost touch! The Garden had been manicured to withi an inch of a blade of grass by my very patient and supportive husband. Ticket sales, the raffle and sales from Snowdrop goods raised over £1,000 for our Charity. Thanks to everyone for their support.

THE MAYOR'S GALA CHARITY DINNER

altOn a chilly late January evening, I set off for the Assembly Rooms in Chichester the venue for The Mayor's Charity Gala Dinner. The warm, aff ectionate greeting of the Mayor and Mayoress, David and Margaret Siggs, is infectious. They always look as if they are enjoying themselves, and they love our Charity. Snowdrop supporters abounded, and it was lovely to see everyone. The Assembly Room looked very grand with fabulous fl oral table displays; the meal, provided by ff foccasions was delicious. Our table was hosted by Counsellor Martyn Bell; I lost no time in telling him all about Snowdrop and he relayed his life story both riveting. Kate Mosse, who kindly agreed to attend the evening, was the perfect after-dinner speaker. Very pretty, and with charming manners, she recognised and greeted old friends from her Chichester schooldays. Kate told amusing anecdotes of her alarming violin teacher, as well as of her fellow writers, notably Carol Thatcher and Sandy Toksvig. She was most interesting and informative about her own writing too. The evening was hugely entertaining and

enjoyed by all.

IT'S OFFICIAL : CHOCOLATE IS GOOD FOR YOU!

Helen Pattinson, co-founder, CEO and general dogsbody (her words not mine!) of Montezuma's Chocolates, gave an inspirational talk to Snowdrop Supporters last October. Helen talked us through the origins of the different cocoa beans used, the majority coming from Peru, The Dominican Republic and Guatemala, and vanilla from Madagascar. The tasting session was very difficult - such choice - and each sample seemed to be better than the previous one! Amazing to find out that Montezuma's 'sophisticated' milk chocolate has a high 54% cocoa content - higher than a Bournville bar! Helen asked us to put the chocolate between our tongues and the roof of our mouths, and she was correct in that we experienced a fuller, lingering range of flavours as the chocolate melted.

Snowdrop's thanks go to Helen and all who came along and helped us raise a wonderful £1,200 from ticket sales, raffle and saleable items.

FASHION SHOW

On Thursday, 30 October 2008, the Army & Navy House of Fraser in Chichester put on a magnificant pre-Christmas Dress Show.  The turnout was amazing, with hundreds of customers buzzing around the very festively decorated Store.  Guests were offered a welcome drink and a delicious array of canapes.  The Sussex Snowdrop Trust had been chosen to benefit from the proceeds of the wonderful Raffle, all prizes being kindly donated by the Store.  Members of the Snowdrop Committee squeezed their way through the throng to sell the raffle tickets, and the evenings event resulted in a superb donation of over £360 being made to the Trust.

Our thanks go to the Army & Navy House of Fraser staff and all guests for their support of Snowdrop on this occasion.

THE SATAIR THREE PEAKS CHALLENGE - JULY 2008

alt
After 18 months of planning, organising, training and buying equipment. The weekend finally arrived for the long anticipated Three Peaks Challenge. The challenge involved climbing the Three Peaks of Britain - Ben Nevis (Scotland),
Sca fell Pike (England) and Snowdon (Wales) back to back.

Bright and early on Saturday the 5th both teams travelled to the foot of Ben Nevis. The weather was ideal, clear and sunny; the teams were full of enthusiasm as they started the ascent of the first mountain, enjoying fantastic views along the way.  It took the teams approximately four hours to complete the first mountain.  They returned to the buses in good spirits, tired but happy before the long drive to Scar fell Pike.

The teams arrived at Sca fell Pike in the dark but were ready to take on the next mountain.

The weather was deteriorating and visibility was reducing with fog but still our brave teams followed their guides, watching the lights from the mini buses getting smaller and smaller into the distance as they climbed.

A few hours into the climb up Scar Fell the reality of climbing a mountain in extreme weather conditions was hitting both our teams.  The terrain was difficult underfoot, slippery and the climbers were all soaked to the skin, tired from the previous climb and lack of real sleep making them weary.  To add to the list of challenges, the fog made visibility almost impossible the conditions really couldn't have been much worse!

altTo complete the challenge four members  from each team had to take on the next mountain so off went the eight mighty climbers determined to reach the summit!  Snowdon was a three hour climb and given that their clothes were soaking and they were exhausted they reached the top with much elation.

After the final descent to base everyone was driven to a nearby village for a much needed celebratory fish and chip supper and the teams swapped recollections of their experiences before the long journey home.

WELL DONE! and HUGE THANKS to our teams and drivers but also to all Satair UK employees who have supported this amazing event. Total money raised to date including all corporate and individal sponsorship is £6935.00 to be split between the team's four chosen Charities.

THE SATAIR TEAM RAISED A FANTASTIC £1,735 FOR SNOWDROP, THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!
